Who Am I To Say?
On the audacity of writing a book.
My mental state is a bit off-kilter these days. I'm oscillating between terror and immense pride as I put my book together.
What a wild idea! Write a book!
I love ideas because taking them in and experimenting with them is the only way I know to change for the better. There's worse, of course; look at the manosphere. In a weird way, even that's the power of ideas at work.
Ideas change you because your thinking affects your actions.
Yet another reason to eschew meal plans and diets. They cut off your ability to understand and grow: do this thing for this amount of time.
That's a gauntlet, not a durable path to a healthy weight.
I know because I did the very thing I teach many years ago. Gave up dieting, lost 55 pounds, kept it off for 15+ years, and never gave up the pleasure of food.
Multiple ideas got me here, each compounding the other.
Hence, the book. I can't give you the keys to a healthy weight in midlife in snippets. It can help, but most people are looking for change that endures.
A book offers that possibility. So, I thought I'd write one.
It's hard in the ways you imagine, but also emotionally. It's scary! It's exhilarating! It's scary!
Then, I exhaust myself enough to work.
The people I had in mind while writing are the people I've helped. They took the time to engage with me, learned and grew, and enacted change in their lives. I'm so grateful for this audience and my ability to speak to you.
This process was life-changing for me in every way that matters: my mental health, my physical health, what I'm doing with my life, my hobbies. The kids talk about leveling up. This process leveled me up.
That's what I want to share.
What's next?
I'm pushing the launch date to November 5th.
Next week, I'll start pre-selling the book, with benefits only for people on my list. That's you.
I'll also host a couple of book club meetings so you can talk to me and ask questions. Those are only for people who buy the book.
Yours in good care,
Rebecca
PS. About those super-cushiony shoes... By the by, I started weight training over a year ago, and one of the many good effects is that I need less support in my shoes.

PPS. Is there someone you know who might be interested in my book? Send them this.
